Per Diem Dosimetrist - Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie, NY
SUMMARY:
Provides support to Medical Radiation Physicist in accurate and precise dose calculation and delivery to patients, as prescribed by Radiation Oncologists.
Provides support to the Radiation Oncologist ensuring consistency and appropriateness of techniques and treatment delivery.
Develops patient treatment plans in accordance to national and local standards.
Recommends changes based on variances to standards of practice identified when appropriate.
Provides training to trainee colleagues (e.g., dosimetry students, physics residents, etc…) in the performance of their assigned duties and requirements.
Supports and advises radiotherapy technologists from the simulation to the completion of treatment according to the plan approved by the Radiation Oncologist and Physicist.
Participates in quality management programs within the department as assigned.
Provides treatment planning knowledge and expertise to patients and members of the health care team.
Demonstrates regard for the dignity and respect of all patients, family members, visitors and hospital personnel as defined in the philosophy of Nuvance.
Promotes a safe and efficient working environment by adhering to hospital and department policies and procedures.
Performs other duties as specified.
Responsibilities:
Collects pertinent measurements and data concerning the patient and the procedure. Identifies, evaluates, processes, and measures the required data.
Reviews patients’ charts for accuracy of physics data and clinical entries.
Designs isodose distributions and radiation treatment plans using current departmental and professional standards, protocols, clinical information, and treatment planning procedures using the appropriate treatment planning computer when prescribed to do so by a Radiation Oncologist.
Advises in design, and fabrication of treatment and immobilization devices used for radiotherapy patients.
Provides export of patient data from the treatment planning system to all concerned parties, for medical records reporting, treatment delivery, quality assurance, clinical trials and patient care related purposes.
Provide clinical support for Radiation Oncology procedures.
Demonstrates regard for the dignity and respect of all patients, family members, visitors and Medical Center personnel as identified and implied in the philosophy of Nuvance Health, and the profession.

*JOB QUALIFICATIONS: *
Education: Graduate of any AMA approved school of dosimetry or AMA approved school of radiation oncology technology. Associates Degree or higher preferred. Must be eligible to be certified by the MDCB.
Experience: Requires a minimum of two years of experience to acquire knowledge and related skills.
License: Medical Dosimetry Board Certification (MDCB) or eligibility is mandatory. Board-eligible applicants are to attain certification within 2 years of employment.
Proven competency through the annual performance appraisal process, organizational and departmental competencies, as well maintenance of Medical Dosimetry Board Certification is mandatory.
